Chinchilla was found struggling at the surface, unable to dive due to a carapace injury. Upon intake, bloodwork revealed clear signs of starvation, indicating he had been unable to dive and forage for some time.

Radiographs revealed a spinal injury and several carapace fractures. The pattern of damage suggests blunt force trauma, though the more circular shape makes it unclear whether the injury was caused by a boat strike.

Chinchilla’s treatment included several medical modalities, including physical therapy, medications, cold laser therapy, topical honey for wound management, and a carefully balanced nutritional plan to support recovery.

Chinchilla was named after a favorite singer/artist of one of our team members.

Chinchilla made a full recovery and was released back into the Atlantic Ocean on November, 21 2025!
