Dr. Charles Manire is a distinguished leader in the field of sea turtle medicine, surgery, and clinical research. He earned a DVM from Texas A&M University and forged a career in marine animal medicine with a concentration in sea turtles.
He is the gold standard in sea turtle medicine. Among his many important scientific contributions, Charlie is renowned for developing sea turtle total parenteral nutrition (TPN). This procedure minimizes the amount of time sea turtles must be out of the water while providing them with complete nutrition in solution form. Dr. Manire is an editor and co-author of SEA TURTLE HEALTH and REHABILITATION, the first comprehensive book on sea turtle husbandry, health, medicine, and surgery. It is considered an essential volume for all who work in sea turtle veterinary medicine, rehabilitation, and conservation.
He continues to lead and inspire in the fields of medicine and conservation medicine. In his own words; “My goal in working with sea turtles has always been to not only help the individual turtles that I touch, but to help the worldwide populations by helping the individual, caring humans, and organizations.”
